After evaluating my prints, I decided that it would be an interesting idea to create a blind for the new building, as my project is mainly about light. Blinds would be the most fitting as they either let light through or stop light from coming through the window. Therefore I looked at some different varieties of blinds to see which would suit both the building and my designs.
After I had looked at these I tried my designs over the top of some internet pictures of blinds to see how it would look.
I feel that this design for a blind like this if far too dark.
Personally I think that the darker design works much better on this style of blind.

Overall I think that the lighter design with the mainly white background works much better as a blind, as it looks lighter and fits in better as an interior.

Large Scale Work

I created this image using the mark making techniques I looked at earlier. I think the A1 image was very successful the marks did translate well into large scale, and I believe they created some very interesting textures.
I used spray paint on A1 black paper to create the following two images. I was very pleased with the outcome, the spay paint gave the fuzzy outline I was wanting to achieve (just like the patches of light in the photos). Also the vibrant colours against the black background made them look more luminous.

I also looked at mark making in my A3 book (underneath), however I don't think these were as successful.

Education: Morley High School, 12 GCSES’s ranging from B to C and 3 A Levels in Art, History and Maths.
Leeds College of Art, Foundation Diploma in Art and Design

Previous employment:- I currently work part time at Clarks shoes where I have worked since September 2008.I have trained to become a fully qualified children’s shoe fitter. This has helped with my confidence massively, I can now handle a variety of customers even small children and help them select the product that they need. It has also helped my time management and I now have more initiative with what to do in situations that occur in the working environment. I am also a trusted member of staff and have been trained to do refunds and put away stock. I enjoy my job and feel I am a hard and effective worker.
Career aspirations: I am currently studying Textiles at Manchester Metropolitan University where I hope to obtain a degree in textiles in practice. After this I hope to work in the area of printed textiles possible designing prints on fabrics for interior or fashion.

Hobbies and Interests: I am very interested in design and art work, I often visit art galleries and read design magazines. Last year I went to Paris and looked around several art galleries whilst I was there, I feel that this trip broadened my creative knowledge immensely and I enjoyed my time there greatly.

Blog Task

My initial expectations for the project were to produce several print samples which connected to my theme, summer and winter, and mainly focused on floral patterns. I feel that I did manage to produce plenty of samples in print using the different processes shown to us.  However I have neglected the amount of drawings I have produced slightly, and I think that it would benefit my work to produce more.
I chose the print workshop because I have been in it previously and enjoyed it, therefore I wanted to try it at an intermediate level to allow me to progress further and learn some more different methods of printing. I also felt that I would be able to link my chosen theme into print well.  During the print workshop I have used my sketch book to create design ideas for my screen, I have also used it to do my colour studies and tests to see which colours to use for my prints.
Underneath is some of the colour work I produced to help me make an iformed decision for the colours to use in my design.

Looking at the design I have created and the way the colours have turned out on the fabric I have come up with plenty of ideas of how to move my project on.

I am considering looking into Indian and African textiles and the patterns and colours used in this area of work. Because my samples have very intense colours I intend to present them with this in mind, I want to put them together in groups which best make the individual colours come out.

If I were to start the project again I would give myself more time to come up with a design for my screen. I would have liked to have been able to retrieve many more drawings straight from flowers, allowing me to get a grasp on the shape and colours etc which would have given me a more informed decision when it came to the flowers I used on my design for my screen.

Given the time I would have produced more work like the above.

The contextual references which I used helped my with ideas for colours, as I looked at the way they used colour in their work compared to the colours I was planning on using to see what the colours would look like when put into design rather than just been on a sample.
It is also interesting to look at the work of other people in my print group as you can often see people doing things in a different way to how you would do them, this then allows you try out different methods, and it can give you ideas for your own work when you have looked at others.

During the project I have achieved several samples which even though produced in the same way using the same design have very different qualities. I didn’t expect at the beginning of the project for this to happen I thought I would end up with several very similar samples, however I think each of mine are unique, although they do all have a common theme and look well as a group, which I am very proud of.

As I am aiming to create some kind of printed textile for my final outcome I decided to put one of my images onto a screen and create some prints. Before deciding on which image I wanted to use in print I looked at several of the pictures, I split the colours up into four separate layers using acetate pieces, so that I could see how the colours would look when layered up in print.

I decided that the above image was the on which I wanted to use, as I feel that it looked the most effective. Below are the prints I came up with.

I was very pleased with the outcome, however I think they may look better if the image I used had been slightly more abstract.

After I had created my A1 drawing I then made some more in a similar drawings in an A3 sketch book.

Although I am happy with how these have turned out, I felt that they could be improved by considering the mark making a little more. Therefore I decided to look at mark making a little more in my book before I drew any more large scale images.
These are the marks I came up with, I feel that these marks would translate very well into some large scale work.
