Evaluation

I have developed my work during this project by slightly altering the theme, to make my work more interesting and to allow me to generate more complex ideas. I have also developed it by gathering more research to work with, for example drawings and photos which I then used to create more designs. I can then have several designs to choose from allowing me to edit out the best ones.
I often evaluate my work either on my blog or in my sketch book this allows me to make a clear decision on which ideas are working well and which ones I should not take any further. This evaluation processes also helps me to think of new ideas and ways to move old ones on further.
During this project I feel that I have realised that my best work is always flat designs either drawn designs or Photoshop pieces, and that colour and shape are a large part of my work, which had helped me to discover that I would be best placed doing printed textiles as a pose to more three dimensional textured work. I have also learnt that Photoshop will be very useful to me in the future especially during the design process. As it allows you to try out ideas for the designs without been too final, it also allows you to merge drawn work with digital work (something I am very interested in, in my own work).
Throughout this project I have use contextual research to help me both during my print and DIM workshops. Looking at other artists work gives me inspiration for my own work, it has also in this project especially helped me think more about my colour pallet and which colours are used regularly in design. For example I looked at Osborne and Little’s wallpaper design and focused on which two or three main colours they had used in their separate pieces, which gave me an understanding of which colours would work well together in my own print work.
Although I have enjoyed this project and feel that I have worked well, I think that I could have managed my time much better which would have allowed me to create a larger body of work. Because I have done most of my work at home rather than using the studio and I feel that it is easier to create more work faster in a studio environment than at home. Therefore next time I think it would be beneficial for me to spend time in the studio working independently not just going in for the timetabled workshops. However I feel that I managed my time in the workshops (print workshop especially) very well as it was often busy and took time waiting to use equipment but I always managed to get something done whilst waiting.
Overall I feel that this project has gone well and I am very happy with my work that has come out of it, I have enjoyed this theme much more than my previous theme and I am glad we were given more freedom on choosing our theme. Although I feel that I could have worked faster which would have allowed me to develop my work further this is something I intend to work on for the next project.
